S: great flavors, wide range of diners - families with kids, teens, older individuals.
no staking out tables before getting your food...
portions of the brick wall in the back I remember from decades ago and have survived modernization. used to have strings of colored holiday lights near the back.

Next week: Broadway Diner, Arlington http://broadwaydiner-deli.com/
R: bacon beyond compare! western omlette very fresh tasting as it was made right in front of us. surprisingly easy to park on sunday morning at 8. next time let's arrive a bit before 8 to avoid the lines. beacon hill nbhd reminded me of paris. i enjoyed the overheard medical conversations. i'd go back in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The bacon, blue cheese, and baby spinach omelet was wonderful. I love blue cheese, and that flavor was prominent. I was amazed how quickly they cooked it, and it was fun to watch them work - one guy mixing up the eggs while another pitches the bacon in from a yard down the grill. These guys make omelets the way I like 'em, with the extras stirred in while the eggs cook, not wrapped afterward in a sheet of egg.
ReplyDeleteThe pork sausages were also delightful, with notes (but no sight) of rosemary.
When it comes to home fried potatoes, I frequently find them soft and subtle in flavor, which I find boring. I prefer them a bit crispy and made bolder with pepper and onion. These were the boring (to me) kind. But I can respect that it's a matter of taste, and I would say they did a fine job making the kinder, gentler variety.
Yes, I would definitely go again! The atmosphere was fun, tight quartered but friendly, and touched with Charles Street charm.
